How I work
Do you sometimes:
-
Find that the same sort of things happen to you?
-
Repeat the same sort of behaviours even though you know them not to work or be harmful?
-
Feel down without understanding why?
-
Fail to understand your own reactions to events or people?
-
Struggle to work out why people have reacted to you in a particular way?
If you answered YES to any (or all) of those questions, psychodynamic therapy can help you.
My approach is founded on the belief that our past (including our very early childhood) has had a determining influence on our present. We behave in ways in which our upbringing conditioned us to behave, even though we often don’t even realise it. Additionally, our unconscious (that is, the things within our mind that we are unaware of) controls our conscious mind, and until we bring it into our awareness (understanding, and more importantly, feeling the WHY) we cannot escape its dominance.
In our work together I will encourage you to look at your past as well as your present, and to consider the ways in which you have related to others throughout your life. My role is not to judge you, give you a diagnosis or tell you what to do. Rather, I will support you in discovering and understanding your behavioural and emotional patterns. As we learn to understand ourselves, we also begin to understand others better, and this enables us to make better choices in moving forward.
I therefore invite you to join me in a journey of self-discovery. I can’t promise it will be easy, and sometimes it may be quite painful: however, it will be fully worth it, and growth will come from it.
